2nd Annual Unity Day Louisiana Governor's Games Activities

Jan 22, 2010 — 2nd Annual Unity Day Louisiana Governor's Games Activities

The Unity Day Youth and Family Zone in conjunction the Louisiana Governor's Council on Physical Fitness would like to invite the students of Louisiana to participate in the 2nd Annual Unity Day Louisiana Governor's Games Activities to be held on March 19th, 2010 at the YMCA, 8100 YMCA Plaza Drive and on March 20th, 2010 at the Family Christian Academy Gymnasium, 9119 World Ministry Avenue, Baton Rouge Louisiana.

The ultimate mission and goal of Unity Day is to enhance the mental, emotional and
physical fitness skill sets needed to develop healthy motivated students and productive
citizens. The mission is accomplished by utilizing an innovative approach by first introducing the students to holistic forms of self care and self discipline such as ancient traditional karate movements and critical thinking/problem solving models. Second, the students will receive techniques in stress management, meditation, and nutrition to reduce stress in daily life and specifically as it applies to standardized test anxiety. On Friday, March 19, 2010, the 2nd Annual Unity Day Louisiana Governor's Games program will be dedicated to teaching youth test taking strategies that build confidence and reduce anxiety around the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (LEAP) and the Graduation Exit Examination (GEE).

The application deadline is March 17, 2010. A registration form is attached. Please share the information with your school principals. If you have any questions or need assistance in any way, please contact Linda Ruffin at (225) 342-3900 or 1-877-453-2721. You may also email her at linda.ruffin@la.gov.
