Curriculum
“The Unity Day Youth and Family Zone,” Learning to Learn Curriculum” focuses on Mind, Body and Spiritual Fitness. The curriculum is seven fold:

One: Traditional karate instruction that trains youth and adults overall to: relax; focus; and be on task and get physically fit.
Two: Stress management biofeedback technology reinforces all of the above, and helps build an internal locus of control of emotions, and feelings. Indeed, in 2010 our program is dedicated to teaching youth test taking strategies that build confidence and reduce anxiety around standardized testing, e.g.--LEAP and GEE.
Three: Empirically tested and proven computer based “Grammar Instruction” that will help our youth improve academic performance.
Four: Media literacy helps youth learn practice and master an informed ability to accept or reject both explicit and implicit messages, in a multi-media world that has powerful images, words and sounds. These are fundamental skills need to develop productive and engaged citizens.
Five: Culturally competent parent training that supports the development of healthy motivated students, and productive citizens.
Six: Youth Empowerment Forums that promote human capital/workforce development. (Four times per year)
Seven: Annual statewide opportunity to participate in the Louisiana Governor’s Games Unity Day Karate Seminar and Wellness Training.
